iHeartMedia was going through a large internal restructure, and the people who had to explain it to staff were the company’s own managers. The training was built for them: for the person delivering the news, not the person receiving it.
One section sorts the reactions a manager will meet onto a grid of emotional commitment against intellectual commitment, which gives four people — the enthusiast, the champion, the bystander, and the skeptic. Learners open each quadrant to read the profile. The champion understands the business case for the change, says “I am bought in,” and reinforces leadership messages on the ground, and the screen says outright that the goal is to move as many team members into that quadrant as possible.
The quiz uses matching and drag-and-drop rather than multiple choice and true/false. One question puts the Change Curve on screen — morale and productivity against time, falling after the initiation of change and recovering — with four positions marked along it and four phases to place: shock/denial, emotion, exploration, acceptance. Multiple choice asks a learner to recognize the right answer among four. Dragging each phase onto the curve asks them to retrieve it and put it somewhere, which is the harder task and the one they remember afterwards.
